How One Mission Brings Joy to Children with Cancer at Boston Children’s Hospital

One Mission in Westborough, MA – a $20,000 Foundation grantee last year – has the tall task of finding ways to improve the lives of families affected by pediatric cancer. One Mission provides a wide range of in-hospital offerings, including birthday and special occasion parties. These aim to foster healing through friendships among children with cancer, alleviating feelings of isolation and offering relief from the challenges of treatment.

With Dunkin’ Joy’s grant, One Mission hosted 67 customized, unforgettable celebrations at Boston Children’s Hospital in 2024, bringing light and laughter to nearly 1,500 pediatric cancer patients and their families. These hospital days transform into joyful moments filled with colorful decorations, lively music, creative crafts, delicious treats, and themed goodie bags offering the kids the opportunity to just be kids for the day. Events included movie nights, gaming sessions, wig parties, and even graduation ceremonies – each one tailored to make Boston Children’s Hospital’s patients feel seen and supported. One special young girl, whose illness had sadly reached an advanced stage, got to experience a special dinner with her mother with a room transformed into an elegant dining space with decorations, gloves, faux pearl necklaces, and a nurse server.
