Joyful Spaces Renovates Hasbro Children’s Hospital Family Room
Thanks to a recent grant from the Dunkin’ Joy in Childhood Foundation, the Family Room at Hasbro Children’s Hospital in Providence, Rhode Island has been completely refreshed, transforming it into a bright and welcoming space for pediatric patients and their families to relax while receiving care.
Hospitals can be sterile environments that don’t provide children with a sense of normalcy. Dunkin’ Joyful Spaces, one of the Foundation’s Signature Programs, helps by creating and revitalizing places in traditional hospital settings for kids and their families to have an escape. Existing Joyful Spaces include community gardens, playgrounds, playrooms and more.
The Family Room at Hasbro Children’s now features cozy new furniture, improved lighting, a vibrant Rhode Island-themed wall mural, as well as fun local touches like a neon “Hasbro Runs on Dunkin’” sign and ceramic donut art made by students at Cole Middle School in East Greenwich, RI. These are small but meaningful ways to bring comfort and joy to families during a difficult time.
This addition furthers the long-standing partnership between the Foundation and Hasbro Children’s, as the two organizations have also teamed up for the last four years to host Dunkin’ Prom for the hospital’s teenage patients. This special event gives them a chance to enjoy a rite of passage they may otherwise miss due to their medical conditions. The night is a celebration of strength, resilience, and community, and it’s always a highlight of the year for patients, families, and hospital staff.
Together, these initiatives reflect the Foundation’s mission to bring joy to kids battling illness, and to the families and care teams who support them every day.
