Bringing Joy to Kids Battling Illness

In 2019, the Foundation significantly expanded its hospital-based programs:

Dogs for Joy

The Foundation granted 15 full-time facility dogs to 12 children’s hospitals nationwide. These specially trained dogs help reduce anxiety during procedures, motivate patients during recovery, and provide comfort to children and families.

Hospital Prom Program

Recognizing that teens are often underserved in hospital settings, the Foundation piloted its first prom at Boston Children’s Hospital. Following its success, grants were provided to 17 hospitals to host proms for patients who may not be able to attend their own due to illness.

Joyful Hospital Spaces

Through a partnership with Starlight Children’s Foundation, hospital spaces were transformed into bright, welcoming environments including teen lounges, therapy kitchens, playrooms, and healing gardens.

Childhood Cancer Awareness

For the first time, the Foundation marked Childhood Cancer Awareness Month by partnering with Waze on a “Change Voice” campaign featuring children impacted by cancer. Downloads triggered donations that helped send children with cancer to specialty camps.

Bringing Joy to Kids Fighting Hunger

Access to nutritious food gives children the strength to learn, grow, and thrive. In 2019, the Foundation:

  • Gave $850,000+ to hunger-relief organizations

  • Partnered with Feeding America to provide 20 food banks with $20,000 grants

  • Helped deliver 5.3 million meals

  • Mobilized 2,200 volunteers during the national Week of Joy across 100+ food banks

Community-Powered Giving

Structured into seven regional volunteer chapters, the Foundation’s local leadership raised and distributed funds to nonprofits in their communities. From golf tournaments and galas to volunteer events and direct grants, chapters nationwide amplified the Foundation’s mission.
